Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
